How ironic that as we celebrate Respect for Life month in October, we heard or probably
watched the news of the shooting incident that recently happened in Las Vegas. More
than 50 people were killed and over 500 people were wounded by one man. We don’t know why he did this since he killed himself after the incident. It was so tragic that we sympathize and pray for those families who have lost their loved ones and those who were wounded. We pray that God may comfort them in the midst of their loss and pain.
Incidents such as this are unacceptable to us and more so with God who would always
call us to respect life and value the dignity of every human person. But it just saddens us when there are people who cannot respect the life of others and tolerate the differences in the world that we live in.
With this and all of the other happenings around the world, what does this tell us?
Does this mean that we should be afraid and just live within our comfort zones and say there is no more safe place to go nowadays? I think we need to go back to what God intends for all of us — that we are called to appreciate one another, having in mind that all of us are created in His image and likeness and therefore, it calls us to respect and defend life. No one among us has the right to degrade and destroy the lives of others.
Bishop Malesic said, “we need to continue to teach and proclaim that every human person is created in God’s image and has the right to life. Although the event in Las Vegas is deeply disturbing for all of us, we will continue to pray that the light of God’s love will reach into the darkest places in our nation and our world.”
The month of October is also designated to praying the holy rosary. I encourage all of you to pray the rosary daily with your family to keep our country under her maternal care and be delivered from all the evil surrounding us.
The Diocese of Greensburg just had its annual rosary rally on October 7th, at 11:00 A.M. where Bishop Malesic, along with the priests and the faithful, consecrated the Diocese of Greensburg to Our Lady. In our parish, on the 13th of each month, we pray the rosary at 6:00 P.M. in Fr. Dom’s prayer garden.
I invite you this coming October 13th, to join us in praying the rosary as we continue to honor the 100th Year Anniversary of Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and pray for our family, our parish community and our country.
