Last Sunday, we reflected on the temptations of Jesus and His courage of how He overcame them through His strong willed determination as the devil did not only lure Him once, but three times. It showed how persistent the devil was but in the end, Jesus triumphed over him because He knew how to attack him. This gave us insight that yes, temptation is an ever-present reality in life meant to conquer us by the allurement of the devil, but there is always a way to overcome it and that is by being connected with God, because He can give us grace and the strength to overcome it like Jesus did.
This second Sunday of Lent, we have the gospel on the Transfiguration of Jesus. This event gives us a preview of the glory of the Resurrection of Jesus. It is one of the peak moments in the life of Jesus and for the three disciples as well who witnessed it. In fact, we can see it from Peter, James, and John how happy and overwhelmed they were that they would rather stay there for the rest of their lives – “Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for You and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Now what does that tells us? And why did Jesus allow the three disciples to witness His transfiguration event?
It tells us one thing in life -- that those peak moments are God given moments for us in order to remind us not to easily give up when we encounter difficulties in life. Because sometimes we easily get discouraged when life is hard. But with the peak moments experience, it inspires us to persevere and believe that someday it will be better again for us.
May the Transfiguration of Jesus encourage us to live our life with hope, even in the midst of difficulties! We remember that Jesus attained His glorious resurrection after His suffering and death on the cross.
